All Typed Up provides a range of transcription styles, with varying levels of detail, from full verbatim, where we capture every utterance, through to note-taking, where we succinctly summarise the context of dialogue exchanges, and everything in between. We can also offer additional layers of detail, such as timestamping at regular intervals through to professional proofreading.
Intelligent Verbatim Transcriptions
We “tidy up” the spoken word into intelligent text for hard copy reading. We remove false starts where the speaker quickly corrects themselves whilst changing the direction of their dialogue. We also remove umms, ahhs and filler words such as “you know” and “like”. Prompts and encouragements made by the moderator or interviewer, such as ‘yeah’, ‘okay’ and ‘mmm hmm’ are excluded if we are transcribing focus groups or interviews. This is the preferred style, chosen by 95% of our clients. It retains all your messages, context and details of the original dialogue without any extraneous or unnecessary language. This style is often utilised by market research firms and in other instances where spoken quotations need to be identified and extracted.
For example: Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
Full Verbatim Transcriptions
We transcribe every single individual word of the audio file including umm’s, ahh’s, laughs and pauses. We include all filler words used and any false starts and repetitions, even where the dialogue may be grammatically incorrect. This is often useful for police interviews and legal proceedings as well as University or market research interviews. Please note there is an additional charge for verbatim transcriptions.
For example: The, the umm first…today is the first day of err the rest of your life.
We transcribe every single individual word of the audio file except umm’s, ahh’s. Prompts and encouragements made by the moderator or interviewer, such as ‘yeah’, ‘okay’ and ‘mmm hmm’ are excluded. We include all filler words used and any false starts and repetitions, so that all dialogue is retained, even where the dialogue may be grammatically incorrect. No speech is changed and every word is retained. This is our recommended choice for students and others who require accurate quotations but do not need the unnecessary interruption that can present in full verbatim style.
For example: The, the first…today is the first day of the rest of your life.
You can trust us to compile intelligent transcriptions of your spoken dialogue into concise summaries which retain your core messages and business context. This is useful for events, seminars and conferences where summary documents are required for delegate handbooks, websites or factsheets for journalists. We can also provide notes for focus groups, summarising the views of respondents and padding this out with verbatim quotations throughout. This is the perfect report that can be immediately disseminated to stakeholders
We go into more depth, providing information on length of pauses, and descriptions of types of laughs and sighs. We can also provide detail on pace and tone. This is generally useful only where discourse analysis is required.
Multiple Transcription Styles
For some clients, we work in multiple styles, so that the different formats can immediately be pushed out to relevant stakeholders. For instance, we might provide an intelligent verbatim transcription of a seminar for internal distribution and then convert this to a summarised report so that you can upload the document to your website.
